DC Goes After Its Citizens

April 30, 2009

Using an obscure law that has not been enforced in recent memory, DC has decided that they can ticket your car in your driveway!

Beverly Anderson is mad as hell. She just started to get tickets for parking in her own driveway.

That’s right. The District of Columbia is ticketing people who park their cars in their own driveways.

“This is clearly an attempt by the city to extort money out of property owners,” Anderson tells WTOP.

Anderson has received two of the $20 tickets in the past month. Anderson has owned the Capitol Hill house (and the driveway, so she thought) for more than ten years and has never gotten a ticket. And she’s not alone.

As the government gains more and more control over every aspect of the American economy, remember that at street level this power will be yielded by unaccountable and unelected bureaucrats.  A government who can help everyone, can also take anything from anyone.  Property rights and individual liberty have become just words used to hide their very absence from everyday American life.

Everything you can do, I can do better… I can do everything better than you.

“No you can’t.”

Yes I can.

My opposition to some of Bush’s policies, such as the Patriot Act, wasn’t that it was being misused.  It was that the Patriot Act created new power that future tyrants presidents would surely misuse, as future governments tend to do.  Ogabe isn’t just misusing this power; he has expanded it in a way that could have no benefit other than for tyrannical rule.  From the article:

“…beyond even the outrageously broad “state secrets” privilege invented by the Bush administration and now embraced fully by the Obama administration, the Obama DOJ has now invented a brand new claim of government immunity, one which literally asserts that the U.S. Government is free to intercept all of your communications (calls, emails and the like) and — even if what they’re doing is blatantly illegal and they know it’s illegal — you are barred from suing them unless they “willfully disclose” to the public what they have learned.”

Suing the government after they’ve disclosed what they’ve learned is useless, as at that point, they’ve already thrown you in prison or worse.  Everyone is guilty of breaking one or more laws; society presses on because we know that most laws are stupid in meaningless.  The traditional round, metal doorknob is illegal under the Americans With Disabilities Act, for example.

Ogabe has just endowed his administration with the power to dig up dirt on every individual in America, then sit and wait on that dirt until they need leverage over an individual.
